First haircut.

Technically this was his second haircut. His first haircut occurred several days earlier, after El Hub nagged me yet again about George's crazy curls. I took a little pair of scissors to the kiddo's mullet curls and El Hub was still not satisfied. Meanie.

George's pre-haircut curls (and snack).

George's pre-haircut curls.

Man, those curls. But El Hub seldom asks for anything, and he had been asking for this for months. And a dear friend offered to help us go to the Magic Kingdom Barbershop to take advantage of the first haircut experience they offer.

Magic Kingdom Barber Shop.

Check out the barbershop quartet of pumpkins up there. Hey yo to Halloween.

Being bribed with a car toy distraction.

It's Disney, so they naturally see a lot of kids. Which means the hair stylists are well versed in the ways of soothing nervous toddlers. AKA bribing them with toys.

Mohawk.

Not even paying attention to his temporary mohawk.

George gives Dada a sticker.

George felt his dada could be improved with a few Mickey Mouse stickers. Good call, buddy.

Momma breaks out the stickers.

This momma right here handed the camera over so there could be some photographic proof that I was indeed there that day.

Buzzzzzzz.

The only time George became concerned was during the buzzing of the trimmer. But the lure of the Lightning McQueen toy was too much for him to do anything about his concern.

Freshly shorn.

Ta da! And he got a Mickey hat for his first haircut experience. And we got a lock of his hair to take home and skeeve him out with it when he's in high school.

"My 1st Haircut"

Our big boy and his new haircut.

He's growing up. Eating pretzels. Getting big boy haircuts. Sitting on stools by himself. Saying Mickey Mouse and shouting about cars. It's amazing, and I love it. I love this kid.

The pretzel didn't stand a chance.

And he's pretty amusing, too. Om nom nom, kid.

Newsflash: WE HAVE A TOOTH.

Newsflash: WE HAVE A TOOTH.

Eight months and two days old, and George's first tooth has officially made its appearance. He did not have it this morning when he was gnawing on my finger, but I sure noticed something sharp on his bottom right when he was gnawing away again after he woke up from his morning nap. I don't think I have been so excited about something tooth-related since several years ago when they came out with those Crest whitening strips.

Mobility.

I have been in denial for a few days about this development. He finally got good enough this morning to get to and consequently overturn the cat's water dish on himself, so I could not deny it any longer. The baby is mobile.

I guess this is creeping? Or army crawling? Or scooting? I don't know, it's mobility = doom. Especially since he only seems motivated to go for 1) my laptop, 2) my phone, 3) the cat's water bowl, and 4) electrical cords. Hopefully he will use his powers for good someday, like to reach his fun and obnoxiously colored/lit/noisy/safe toys.

ZOMG parenting philosophies overload, AKA pears are yummy.

Purees! Baby-led weaning! You will let the baby choke if you hand him that pear! He will never learn how to chew if you spoon feed him purees! The sky is falling!

Sorry. I just cannot resist poking fun at the mommy wars. And the term "mommy wars" in general. I could check with El Hub, but I am pretty sure he is involved in some of these same decisions we make about raising our baby. But "parent wars" does not have the same ring to it.

HEY LOOK CUTE BABY.

Pears are yummy.

Slightly steamed pear slice (steamed only because the raw slices were too hard and slippery for him to hold onto very long). He went to town on it. Fun times were had. We have been doing oatmeal cereal for a few weeks now, but George is all about shoving objects in his mouth, so we are capitalizing on that by throwing a little baby-led weaning into our routine.

Belly to back.

George has been rolling belly to back for about two and a half months since he was three months old, but always sporadically and infrequently (which doesn't lend itself to being recorded). This morning he was rolling immediately the first three times I tried to do tummy time with him, and this is the fourth.

Way to go, buddy! Now let's work more on sitting up unassisted and just pause things after that, okay?

Baby laughter is good for the soul.

We have a really hard time getting that last feeding of the day in before George conks out for bedtime. He generally passes out about halfway through, since he's so thoroughly comforted and loved by being held and bonded with through feeding.

That's cute and all, but Momma wants her baby to eat! A couple of nights ago, El Hub was giving George his bottle and beginning to lose the baby to dreamworld, so I put on my goofy face and started chatting up a storm in an effort to try to get him to stay awake. George was so. Far. Gone. His eyes were just slits, and if you had asked me, I would have told you he was already asleep.

But what did he do? George started laughing the barest, slightest, quietest of laughs. He chuckled at me. And then he fell asleep with a smile on his face.

Guys, I am pretty sure this is why people have babies.

Baby smiles are good for the soul

Baby smiles are good for the soul.

And baby laughter is good for my self-esteem. George thinks I am HILARIOUS. He'll learn. Give him a few years. Or maybe until he's a teenager. I probably won't seem very funny to him them, if he takes after me at all.

The cutest 18 seconds of video ever.

George has been smiling - not just lightening his face, teasing us with a look that wanted to become a smile, but actual, genuine, real as real can be smiles - since Saturday.

ADORABLE!
