Website Crushes: Cupcake pr0n

Back when I lived in Tallahassee, one of my flatmates had a real thing for the Food Channel. Anytime she turned on the television, she was guaranteed to flip to that channel. We teased her by saying she needed her dose of food porn.

Well, I guess I am no different, but I am a little pickier than my former roommate about the food I enjoy seeing prepared. Cakes and sweet treats and all that sort of thing are what hit the spot visually (and usually physically, unfortunately). I once caught an show on sugar sculptures - oh my goodness! The beauty, the stress, the anxious movements of transporting these towering, fragile sculptures to be judged - good entertainment.

For the more mundane, I enjoy cakes as well. And cupcakes! Like widdle baby cakes, soooo cute. (I'm disgusting, I know.) Now that I have discovered that there are entire blogs dedicated to food, beautifully prepared food... Most of them do not post pictures of their own cupcakes, but scour the internet to find pictures of other's efforts for your enjoyment. So here, enjoy some cupcake pr0n.

From My Nightmares

Does everyone have nightmares? There is one recurring theme in my nightmares, and I know exactly where it originated from.

When I was maybe 7 or 8 years old, I went to a friend's house. She was so excited to see me because she wanted to show me her new hamster. She led me to the plastic habitat and pointed out her new pet.

I looked, and what I saw horrified me. Yes, there was a cute lil' roly-poly furball of a hamster. But it was surrounded by shiny pink wiggling worms. Really short, fat worms. Or baby hamsters, if you will. After that all I remember is my friend's mom coming over and complaining that the hamster they bought must have been pregnant, and what were they going to do with all these baby hamsters?

Well, I didn't want them! But I couldn't get rid of them, at least not in my dreams. Over the years I have had a couple of different nightmares that involves what starts out as one hamster in a cage. Then it has babies, then the babies grow at a freakishly accelerated rate and spontaneously have their own babies, and it just keeps going...

So when I saw this post on CuteOverload, I did not find it cute.

Not cute at all.

But the rest of the site is pretty darn adorable, so check it out.

Website Crush: Daily Monster

I am completely crushing on the Daily Monster.

Watch it. He draws a monster by starting out with a splatter of ink that he blows with a straw. Watch the videos to see where it goes. Fascinating.
